Google Timeline viewer

Open your Timeline export and see where it took you. The file stays in your browser.

Your file, coordinates, and results are not uploaded to Journary or shared with a map provider. This map uses country outlines saved with the page, so it makes no map tile or geocoding requests. The page itself still loads from Journary's website.

This viewer does not import Google Timeline history into the Journary app.

Or drop it here. Supports Maps exports, older Semantic Location History, and Records.json. One file, up to 100 MiB.

Method

How the numbers are made

Visits in the export count as places. A movement segment counts as one trip. For raw Records, consecutive points at least 1 km apart form a movement when they are within 12 hours. Days use UTC dates. Distance is the straight-line sum between recorded route points, not road mileage.

Country names come from a bundled Natural Earth 1:110m boundary file. Small islands, offshore points, and places close to a simplified border may not match. Google may also omit or infer points in the export. Treat the totals as a way to explore the file, not an exact travel record.

The browser reads and parses your file in a Web Worker. It keeps at most 20,000 path points and 2,000 visit markers for display. Clearing the page removes the result from this tab. The tool does not save the file in browser storage.

Want a journal for the days ahead?

Journary is an iPhone travel journal. Viewing an old Timeline export here does not add that history to the app.
