Most travel journals begin after the interesting part. You open a note, try to remember the order of the day, then leave half of it blank. Journary starts with the phone you already carry.
It records location in the background at an interval, then gives you a map, places, trips and a day you can read back. You can add your own words when you want. The app does not need a check-in to remember that you were there.
While you move
No start button. No stop button.
Journary uses the iPhone location system and an interval-based capture policy. You choose how often it should sample within the settings the app supports. The record builds while you walk, drive, work and travel.
That does not mean the phone sees everything. Permission, signal, background execution and the chosen interval all shape the record. Journary is designed to make the ordinary parts easier to keep, not to promise perfect coverage.

After the day
Points become something you can read.
A list of coordinates is useful to a machine and tiring to a person. Journary groups the record into places and trips, then presents a day with the map, route details and your own context together.
On supported iOS versions, Journary can use Apple Foundation Models on the device to shape deterministic day facts into restrained prose. If the model is unavailable, the deterministic day view remains. Your route does not depend on a cloud writer.

The free tier keeps the map, trips, photos, search, corrections, exports, posters and your own writing available at every age. The only age-based gate is Journary-generated diary prose older than 12 months.
Pro is planned as one $69.99 lifetime purchase. There is no subscription, trial, renewal or launch discount. The app is still in development, so the purchase is not available yet.

The honest limit
An automatic journal still needs your voice.
Journary can record a route and recognize a place. It cannot know why you went, what you noticed or who made the day matter. Add a note when that part belongs in the record.
That mix is the point. Automatic capture keeps the blank page from swallowing the day. Your own words keep the map from pretending it knows more than it does.

Does an automatic travel journal need check-ins?
Journary does not require a daily check-in or a trip start and stop. After you grant the needed iPhone permissions, it records in the background at the interval you choose.
Will Journary track every second of a trip?
No. Journary uses interval-based location capture, so the record depends on the interval, permission, signal and iOS background behavior. It does not promise continuous coverage.
Can I write in an automatic travel journal?
Yes. Journary keeps your own writing alongside routes, places and trips. The app can also shape day facts into prose on supported iOS versions, but it cannot know what a place meant to you unless you add that context.
Does automatic capture drain the battery?
Battery impact depends on the chosen interval, iPhone, signal and iOS behavior. Journary uses interval-based capture rather than promising continuous tracking. A device test is needed before making a measured battery claim.
